What are Your choices?

There are three basic types of blacktop or asphalt sealers: emulsified asphalt; refined coal tar sealers; and 100 percent man-made acrylic polymer sealers.
 
BGS Sealer:
This is the sealer that we use and is the best sealer that is available today, our sealer contains almost 100 percent man-made ingredients.BGS sealer is unaffected by sunlight and air. They stay flexible for many years often last for eight to ten years, and they are environmentally safe, they penetrate the surface to seal water out, dry in as little as 2 hours, resistant to all petroleum products, will not track, flake, or become tacky in any temperature.

Asphalt emulsion:
offer the lowest levels of protection. In essence, they simply contain the same asphalt that was used to bind the sand and gravel together in the first place. This asphalt coating will oxidize and get brittle just like the asphalt you are trying to protect. this is a top coat and will flake off, track, and become tacky when outside temperature is high.

Refined coal tar:
United States Geological Survey Studies have shown that coal tar is a major source of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Urban and Suburban Environments. PAHs are toxic to mammals (including humans), birds, fish, amphibians, invertebrates, and plants As of January 2006 coal tar has been banned in the city of Austin TX and is recommended to voluntarily not use this product.

Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Urban and Suburban Environments

(PAHs) are toxic to mammals (including humans), birds, fish, amphibians, invertebrates, and plants. Aquatic invertebrates, the insects and other small animals that live in streams and lakes, are particularly susceptible to
PAH contamination, especially the bottom dwellers (benthic invertebrates) that live in the mud where (PAHs) tend
to accumulate. They are an important part of the food chain and are often monitored as indicators of stream
quality (analogous to the “canary in the coal mine” concept). Possible effects of PAHs on aquatic invertebrates
include inhibited reproduction, delayed emergence, sediment avoidance, and mortality. Possible adverse effects
On fish include in erosion, liver Abnormalities, cataracts, and immune System impairments.

Sealing the Surface
